The Casa Arte Vida project is a social and cultural initiative that emerged as a support tool for the development of the Capoeira Grande community in Pedra de Guaratiba,

Our Mission

Our purposes

Casa Arte Vida carries out the task of developing the personal, intellectual and social autonomy of children, teenagers and adults. Working with individuals of different age groups, Casa Arte Vida shows the need to adapt to society’s demands in order to achieve the main goal of the institution: citizenship and culture for the local social development.

To fulfill its purpose, Casa Arte Vida offers many different activities such as art workshops, pedagogical tutoring, music, theatre, computer training, capoeira, horticulture and games workshops. Children and teenagers can take part in the activities in the morning or in the afternoon, according to their school schedules. Adults, on the other hand, have the opportunity to take evening classes covering primary education and literacy.

One of the main purposes of the project is to carry out cultural mediation actions, developing new forms of social interaction and increasing social and cultural skills in the children, teenagers and adults assisted. Hence, each individual can build their own knowledge base that will act as a tool to develop abilities and specialized skills in social and artistic practices.

Another fundamental aim of the project is to guarantee protection to children and teenagers in situations of social risk and vulnerability. Casa Arte Vida undertakes social and educational activities such as programs to stimulate the productive and healthy development of families and to create awareness of the rights and duties of the citizenry, often ignored. Fostering the achievement of personal autonomy and citizenship as well as strengthening the family and community ties, the project expects to contribute to the lowering of crime and violence levels.

With ongoing work, Casa Arte Vida is fulfilling its dream of making a difference in the individual growth of each student as well as collaborating to increase the quality of life of the local community.

Social development

Casa Arte Vida understands that children and educators are part of a big network that includes their families and the ideas and rules of that system.

To provide a better quality of life for the families – reducing the time, cost and environmental damage involved in commuting to the city’s business hubs – the project aims to give professional training to members of the community, enabling them to be absorbed in the local market and in the actions carried out by Casa Arte Vida itself.

Food education

The goal of our food program is to minimize nutritional deficiencies, strengthen the resistance to illnesses and help the motor, intellectual and social development of the children.

Through educational and playful activities, it is possible to convey the importance of good eating habits. In order to do this, some activities are developed, such as the “chef workshop” and the cultivation of a vegetable garden in the Casa Arte Vida grounds.

Facilities

Activities room, yard and kitchen.

Casa Arte Vida is a center for children’s activities and comprises classrooms, a culture room, a dining hall, a kitchen and an outdoor area with gardens.

The content offered encompasses notions of citizenship, environmental awareness, food education and general culture, aiming to provide a respectable integration of the children in society.

Today, Casa Arte Vida operates three shifts and assists children, teenagers and adults daily, offering psychological support, education and literacy classes for adults.
